Description

Product Description 'A British nu-metal band destined to be huge' says NME. USA release date not scheduled until at least May 2002. Amazon.com The U.K. keeps shipping these amazing, dynamic rock bands (Placebo, JJ72, Idlewild) across the ocean and we keep buying Nickelback albums. Something has to give. So our money is on Aldershot, England's Vex Red. Discovered by primo nu-metal producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot), the black-swathed quintet reveals a seething, snarling techno-metal crunch that sounds pleasantly familiar yet satisfyingly innovative on its debut, Start with a Strong and Persistent Desire. But they're not merely dentally challenged clones of Robinson's more successful antisocial clients--songs like "Can't Smile" and "Itch" showcase a swirling, melodic core that suggests the sleek commercial ambition of--gasp!--Bush. --Aidin Vaziri

This album will not be what you expect it to be, but I've found that to be a good thing in the case of Vex Red's 'Start With A Strong And Persistent Desire.' The first track is a good indication as to the direction for the rest of the album, but keep in mind that it is the middle ground. Songs like 'Untitled' and 'Vert' will take you from the softest of the soft into massive and chaotic territory, often without warning. To speak of the album as a whole, mix about two thirds metal and one third electronic, and then throw in a hint of grunge, just for fun. People have compared this album to Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, bringing industrial music to mind, but this album is really rooted in metal. Think more along the lines of a darker (and in my opinion, better) version of Incubus.
