Champion Graphite (X, XL & Epic) Pickleball Paddle Choose a paddle that supports your unique style of play with the Champion Graphite X, XL or Epic. Made in three different shapes that lend themselves to your strengths. The X is the most balanced style with an even weight distribution and generous sweet spot. The XL has an elongated face for lots of reach, better follow-through and a powerful feel. The Epic is quick and adaptable, with a long handle that lends itself to double-handed backhands. All the models in the Champion X line have premium graphite faces that provide high durability and noticeable touch. The thick 1/2" polymer cores dampen vibrations so you can focus on your game rather than stabilizing your paddle. Enjoy extra comfort and tack from the perforated cushion grip. A medium 4-1/4" grip provides enough softness to dampen impact while keeping the handle slender for quick meandering. Absorbs moisture for improved traction. Slight grit on face helps to grab pickleballs and add more spin to your hits. Very solid construction that will stand up to frequent play and rigorous practice. A wider core evenly disperses energy across the entire face of the paddle. This makes it easier to defend slams while carefully positioning follow-up shots. I am writing this review going back and forth between rating this 2 or 3 stars. I started playing in March, and it's almost July, so I've gotten a lot of time playing with this so far and it has held up pretty well for the most part. The edge guard is starting to come up a little but overall it has been pretty durable. I play 3-4 times a week so it has seen a lot of action. The grit wears off a bit, but still enough to generate spin. However, there's a lot more that goes into creating spin than the textured surface, so I don't even care that it isn't as gritty as it was before. The biggest issue is how thin and hollow the paddle is compared to the 16mm options out there, but even 13mm competitors have a much more solid feel and larger sweet spot. The sweet spot on this is not very good or forgiving at all. There are a lot of review sites out there that rate this paddle highly, even saying it is a good mid level option. To be clear, this is probably a step up from most beginner paddles but if you become addicted to playing pickleball, do yourself a favor and get a higher quality paddle that you can continue using as your skill level increases. Nobody uses this in tournament play. This is a good paddle to get if you want something higher quality than those starter packs, but not wanting to dump 180+ into one of the better options. I'll go ahead and give 3 stars since it has lasted me a while, and I will probably continue to use it until I can justify spending another $200 on a new paddle, but man, it feels like there's a lot of dead spots now. The sweet spot keeps shrinking.
