This is the first time I've taken the time to write a review for a book. I'm writing this review because I have read so many books trying to get help and I finally found an author who describes in detail what is going on in my home, with me, with my marriage, with my family! He is very honest and I'm pretty sure I would have dismissed this book before fostering and adopting as way too negative and about extreme cases but it's not. I'm so glad some families foster and adopt and it goes smoothly and it's wonderful but there are many of us who don't have that story. I fostered and eventually adopted four boys. Two are fine and two struggle and everyone in the family struggles with them. I do want to caution the reader that the title is misleading in that it doesn't really give you strategies. It is more about what happens to you and your family when you foster and adopt children with RAD. It sounds like his other books spend more time talking about strategies so I plan on reading them. This is the "fly on the wall" book about families who foster and adopt...a real look on the inside. You cannot see it from the outside (sadly even counselors, doctors, social workers don't see it). You have to walk the walk to get it but this book gets you as close as you can without walking it.
