That’s why we offer you our Helios Solar Glass filter, which is the ultimate choice for solar photography. Helios Solar Glass is optical quality glass that has special coating on both sides that blocks 99.999% of the sun’s harmful rays, making it safe for your eyes and your camera. The glass is also very durable and resistant to scratches and damage. Helios Solar Glass has high resolution that gives you clear and crisp views of the sun. You can see the sun’s surface details, such as sunspots and granulation, as well as spectacular events, such as solar eclipses and planet transits. The sun will appear in a beautiful yellow-orange color that will enhance your photos. Our solar filter is easy to use and fits most camera lenses. It has a threaded design that allows you to screw it onto the front of your lens securely. You can check the filter size that matches your lens by looking at the symbol on the front of the lens or the lens cap. **Determining Correct Solar Filter Size** The solar filter should slip over the sky end of your optical tube. Measure the outside diameter of your optical tube using a ruler, tape measure, or caliper. Measure from the outside of the casing on one side, across the center, to the outside casing on the other side. Order a solar filter with an inside diameter slightly larger than your measurement. For example, if your measurement across the end of your optical tube is 4 inches (102mm), choose a solar filter with an inside diameter of 4.25 inches (114mm)—just larger than your measurement.

There weren't any reviews for this filter yet when I looked at it, but a quick search of the seller name showed that they are the manufacturer, are based in Utah, and have been in business since 2007, so I went ahead and gave them a chance. I'm glad I did. The 95mm glass filter threaded onto my Sigma 150-600mm lens smoothly and is safe for me to use with the optical viewfinder, unlike an ND 1000000 filter I also tried which warned only to use an electronic view. The Sun appears in a pleasing orange color and sunspots were visible. The filter comes sealed in a plastic bag to protect it from scratches. They warn you to make sure you ordered the right size for your lens before opening it, or it won't be returnable, so you don't need to worry about getting someone's return that they might have scratched. It's in a sturdy cardboard box sandwiched securely between spongy foam, but there isn't a clear plastic case like many filters ship in. For some reason, I found it difficult to find a simple plastic case to order for it, but then I remembered I had the one my UV filter came in. You can certainly store it in the box it comes in, but if you want something that'll fit in your filter bag, you might have to look around.Anyway, I'm glad to have a nice glass solar filter for my big lens. I got it for the April 2024 solar eclipse, but it seems like it'll last a long time, so I can always get sunspot pictures. I took a few quick test shots without messing around with manual settings, and I got very acceptable results. I've got a month to practice and see if I can get even sharper images before the eclipse. I expect I can also shoot video with this filter if I want to, since I don't need to do a long exposure. It was a bit of an investment, but I'm happy with it. I like it so much I just ordered a second 72mm one for my Sigma 18-300mm lens so I can have two cameras ready to go.Edit: The 72mm filter just arrived, and it DID come with a plastic case.
